What bakery billing software must be good at
Bakery billing software must bill unpacked items in a couple of taps, weigh sweets and mixture correctly, and keep track of cake orders that are paid in part today and collected on Saturday. Cartix Prime handles the counter and weighing from Silver, and orders with advance on Gold.
A Kerala bakery at 5 pm is a good test. School children want cream buns, office-goers want egg puffs and a tea, and someone at the side is asking for half a kilo of mixture and a box of laddu. Most of these items have no barcode.
One-tap buttons for things without a barcode
Puffs, cutlets, buns, tea and juice are your fast sellers. Put them as one-tap buttons on the side of the billing screen. Three taps and the bill is done. For the rest, type the first letters of the name or the item code.
The touch layout suits a counter with a touch screen, and the keyboard-first layout suits a cashier who is quick on keys. Hold a bill while a customer decides on a cake slice, serve the next person, then recall it.
Sweets, mixture and cake by weight or by amount
On Silver and above, Cartix Prime reads the weighing scale. Put 400 g of halwa on the scale and the weight comes onto the bill at the per-kilo rate. When a customer says "₹100 of mixture", enter the amount and the weight to pack is worked out.
This one feature saves the most arguments at a sweet counter, because the scale, the bill and the rate always agree.
Cake orders with an advance
A birthday cake is booked on Tuesday, with ₹500 paid now and the rest on Saturday. On the Gold plan, Cartix Prime records the order with the advance taken, and the balance is collected when the cake is picked up. No more slips of paper pinned to the wall.
Silver has sales orders and estimates too, which some bakeries use for bulk orders from offices and functions. If you supply biscuits or rusks to nearby shops, delivery challans are on Silver as well.
Expiry, waste and what sells
Packed goods like bread, rusk and cakes in boxes carry expiry dates. On Gold, batches and expiry help you see what to move first. Stock health reports on Silver show what is not selling, so you bake less of it.
Item names can be in Malayalam or other local scripts on the bill. A bakery whose customers ask for "unniyappam" can show it that way. Bills go on WhatsApp as a link, which customers who order cakes often prefer.
Two shifts, one cash drawer
Many bakeries open at 6 am for bread and milk and close after 10 pm. That usually means two people on the counter on different shifts, sharing one drawer. On Silver, each person opens and closes a shift, and the cash at closing is checked against that shift's bills. If the evening drawer is ₹300 short, you know which shift it belongs to.
Each staff member signs in with a PIN, and you decide what they may do. The activity log shows who changed a price or deleted an item. Silver allows 7 staff, which is enough for most bakeries with a kitchen and a counter.
If the internet goes in the evening rush, billing carries on and the bills reach the cloud later. See offline billing software.

Questions people ask
Which billing software is good for a bakery?
Look for one-tap buttons for unpacked items, weighing scale support for sweets, cake orders with advance, and billing that works without internet. Cartix Prime does the counter and scales on Silver at ₹4,999 a year, and cake orders with advance on Gold, before GST.
Can bakery billing software take advance for cake orders?
Yes, on the Gold plan. The order is saved with the advance paid, and the balance is collected when the customer picks up the cake.
How do I bill sweets by weight?
Connect a weighing scale and set the sweet’s rate per kilo. The weight comes onto the bill from the scale. If a customer asks for an amount, like ₹100 worth, enter that and the weight is worked out. This is on Silver and above.
Which printer is good for a bakery counter?
A 58 mm thermal printer is enough for short bakery bills and costs less. An 80 mm printer is easier to read on long bills. Cartix Prime works with both, and with Bluetooth printers from an Android phone.
Can I see which bakery items are not selling?
Stock health reports on Silver point you to items that are not moving, so you can bake or order less of them. On Gold, batches and expiry show which packed goods to sell first.
