Is there free billing software for a shop?
Yes. Cartix Prime has a free plan that stays free: up to 100 items and 5 bills a day. Before that, every new shop gets 7 days of the Silver plan, free, with no card needed. If you do not pay after the trial, the shop moves to the free plan and nothing is deleted.
We would rather say the limits plainly than call it "free forever" and surprise you later. Five bills a day suits a small home business. It does not suit a kirana that bills sixty customers a day.
Who the free plan is for

- Anyone who wants to keep using the app after the trial while deciding
If your shop bills more than five times on most days, the free plan will feel tight within the first week. That is by design. It is meant for very small shops, not as a trial without an end.
What the 7-day trial gives you
The trial is the full Silver plan, not a cut-down demo. For seven days you can:
- bill as much as you like, with any number of items and customers
- connect a weighing scale and sell loose items by weight or by amount
- keep customer credit with limits, and send bills on WhatsApp
- do a stock count, run shifts and close the cash drawer
- bill when the internet is off, and see it catch up later
Use the week properly. Import your items, bill real customers for a few days and see whether it suits your counter. That tells you more than any comparison chart.
The catch with "free" billing software
Free software has to be paid for somehow. Before you choose any free billing app, ask three questions:
- Where does my data live? If it is only on one phone and the phone is lost, so are your bills and credit book.
- What happens when I grow? Moving all your items and customers later is work. Check what the paid plan costs before you start.
- Does it show ads or sell data? Read the terms.

What it costs, and when to move to Starter
Starter is the first paid plan, and it is the natural step up from free. It costs ₹599 a year if you bill on an Android phone only, or ₹2,499 a year for one computer and one phone, before 18% GST. That is less than ₹2 a day on the phone plan.

Starter covers billing, credit with limits, returns, split payment, stock, purchase entry, expenses, GST reports, WhatsApp bills and thermal printing. Most small shops never need more. Move to Silver (₹4,999, or ₹1,099 phone only) only when you need a weighing scale or more than 1,000 items.
Moving up later is not starting again
The worry with starting on a free plan is that you will have to redo everything when you grow. With Cartix Prime the shop, items, customers and bills stay the same. Choosing a plan only lifts the limits.
